quotes zen buddhism

Hey folks, I'd like to draw your attention to another part of the group description that I think sometimes we overlook in the heat of discussion:
"When posting, try to be open, topical and polite. This group has people with all different levels of experience, and needs to be a safe environment for a beginner's enquiry, as well as for more in depth discussion. Be kind."
Please be open, please be polite, please be kind - please don't be smug, or 'know-it-all'-ish.. why? because people will think you're an ass and respond that way. There have been too many hostile, aggressive, "snarky", "shirty", sarcastic, rude comments and posts. It's just not necessary, and seriously, if you're one of those posters, nobody actually thinks you're cool.
If someone else is being an idiot - you don't have to respond to try and "out idiot" them.. you may just succeed.
In short, this is a request to try to practice using right speech, to avoid criticising others, to avoid putting others down in order to elevate the self, to avoid getting intoxicated with debate, and to avoid indulging in anger.
