King's Palace
The Grand Palace is no longer used as a royal residence, but serves a variety of other functions. The numerous buildings are constructed in several architecure styles that reflect the desires of the monarchs who created them. Chakri Maha Prasat, the largest of the buildings, was designed by British architect John Clunish in 882, but is topped with Thai style spires. The room below the laregst spire contains the ashes of several Chakro monarchs and their queens.

Lots of people...lots, lots! If you are up for a mass tourism walk-through of the old Kings Palace then make sure you have your shoulders covered, long pants/skirts and covered feet. If you fail to show up like this you will be redirected to an office where you can rent for free appropriate clothes in the meantime. These strict rules are for men as well as women!

For us it was rather a disappointing experience because every little possible spiritual feel was washed away by noise, clicking of cameras, guides trying to sell boat tours at overpriced rates (we were offered a boat tour for 1000 baht per person which we simply organized ourselves later on and paid only about 90 baht per person).
